The Polar Express

The French Lick Hotel is always decorated so festive for Christmas.  It makes the perfect place to get some pictures in their new Christmas PJs that Thomas the Elf brought them.  I love their PJs this year - "I can't the Elf is Watching".  Look at Devin's dimple in this picture.  I love to see his genuine smile.

When did Tate get so big?  He is a mini Greg!  I sure hope I can handle this when he gets a little older.

They might have been fighting right before/after I took this picture, but for a moment in time they were smiling, looking at the camera, and acting like they like each other.  Success!

They are excited to ride the Polar Express.

Nothing says Christmas time like The Polar Express and getting to ride to the North Pole.

We had seats this year in the dining car.

Devin getting his ticket punched.

That's not dandruff, it's not snow, it's his ticket puches.

Hot, Hot, Hot, Hot Chocolate!  It was so tasty!

Devin enjoying his Hot Chocolate, even though he doesn't really like Hot Chocolate.

Yes, its that good.  Tate is still working on his camera skills.  He got most of me in the picture.

I think Greg might be wishing his Hot Chocolate was spiked with something other than marshmallows.

Here come the Chefs!

Tate and Devin with Santa!  He joined the train ride after we made it to the North Pole.

Devin and Tate with our elves.  They made our train trip exciting.  They even managed to get Devin out of his seat to dance with them.

Wisconsin Dells - Ducks, Pirates, Trains

We started our day out in the Wisconsin Dells.  We decided that it was a must to take a Duck Boat ride.

Here is a picture of one of the many Duck Boats they use.

Tate getting ready for his first Duck boat ride.

Devin couldn't wait to get the ride started.

Greg & Grandma look excited for this Duck boat ride!

Family picture with our Duck Boat.

We made it out on the Wisconsin River.  We were glad that our Duck boat floated!   We made the trip down the river and saw several interesting sites along the way.
The sandstone cliffs are made up of a very soft sandstone.  It's so soft you can actually crush it in your hand.

The is called the Preachers Pulpit.  The story goes that a local preacher use to tell sermons from this rock to the Indians and locals below in their boats and canoes.  The preacher got upset that his congregation kept falling asleep.  We went and got a piano to put atop his rock, however that piano fell off the pulpit.

The duck boat floating in the water.

After our duck boat ride, we headed for some putt-putt. It's not a vacation without some putt-putt!

Devin & Tate patiently waiting their turn.

Grandpa & Grandma Wolsing out on the course.  I pretty sure Grandpa was the big winner.

Then it was off to lunch.  We found a unique restaurant where they deliver your food and drinks on a train.  The boys loved this.

Tate watching the train go bye.

After lunch they let the boys "decorate" the train.  They each picked out items to place on the trains flat beds.  Devin was pointing out the items he put on the train.  After lunch, we headed back towards our campground.

We found this free ferry south of the dells.  It was the Merrimac ferry and it crossed Lake Wisconsin.  We all enjoyed a tasty snack while we waited for the ferry.  They served some great ice cream and popcorn.
Grandpa Wolsing and the boys checking out how the ferry worked.  The ferry moved along two cables to move back and forth through the water.

We decided to cook dinner over our fire.  We opted for chili cheese dogs, fruit, baked beans, and marshmallows.

After dinner there was a lot of bike riding around the campground.  Both of the boys really improved their biking skills while we were here. They both became much more confident riders.

Our campsite at Babcock County Park.
It is beautiful, small campground just south of Madison.

Star of the Week - What makes you a Star?

This assignment was for the star of the week to bring in an item showing something they were a "star" at.  Mrs. Holden's suggestion was if your student loves and his good at football to bring in a football helmet or football.  We had to think this one out a little bit.  Devin's first idea was to take Ninja things in, because in Devin's words he is good at being a Ninja.  I wasn't to thrilled with the idea, but thought this was his assignment and would let him run with it.  Then Greg came up with the greatest idea.  Devin is an awesome Train Conductor on his new model railway.  Great idea, but no real way to take that to school....or is there.  That was when we decided we would make a video.  Devin got to be his own host to show off his model train set while telling all his classmates all about it and why it was special to him.  This was our 3rd attempt and was pretty proud of the outcome.  Devin did an amazing job!

Wolsing Woods Spooky Trail & Halloween Party

Enjoying Grandpa's Train room.  Tate is a junior conductor.  We made a special trip to the model railroad store in Marion, IL.  Grandpa bought each of the boys a train car.

Tate picked out a flat bed train car carrying a load of semi-trucks.

Grandpa Wolsing's other junior conductor, Devin.  Both Devin & Tate have a huge love of trains, which Grandpa is passing down.

This is the train car that Devin picked out.  He picked out a tanker car.  After enjoying trains on Friday afternoon, we had a movie night with Grandpa.  The boys picked out Iron Man 3.  We watched the movie and enjoyed some popcorn.

On Saturday, we put the finishing touches on the Spooky Trail and Halloween Party.

Grandma & Grandpa Wolsing each year host a huge Halloween Party at their house.  They set up a haunted walk thru their woods and turn the shop into a shop of horrors.  These are just a few of the pictures from the shop.  They go just a LITTLE overboard.
