Great Day to Run around Haubstadt - Laufenfest 5K

Mom and Devin preparing to run the 5K around Haubstadt.  It is a Somerfest tradition.  There is always a huge crowd of runners and just as many people out cheering us all on.  We also get to run right by our house, and we have several very special cheerleaders.  

Happy with our time, since we hadn't had much practice.  

The Candy Race 5K

Our traditional pre-race selfie.  You can see we had to convince a smile out of Tate.  This was his first 5K race and he was a little nervous.  He wasn't quite sure what to expect.  Luckily we had an amazing cheering section.

Love all the smiles!  We love this race in downtown Cincinnati.  The scenery is beautiful and it is for a great cause.   

Tate's emoticon face says it all.  He was a little nervous at the beginning of the race.  He had never run a 5K before, but he did an amazing job.  I am so proud of his efforts.  

Getting started on our run.  We ran along the Ohio River towards both stadiums.  First we ran by the Reds baseball stadium, then the Bengals football stadium.  

Dad was waiting at the 2 mile marker to take some pictures.  Devin was running hard at the 2 mile mark.

Devin pushed himself very hard through the finish.  This was a great way to kick off our summer vacation.  I guess Devin has un-officially started his cross country training for this fall.  

Mom and Tate just about to cross the finish line.  Tate was so excited and proud of himself.  Running a 5K at 6 years old is quite the accomplishment.

Insane Inflatable 5K

Devin & I were so excited for this 5K.  It was the Insane Inflatable 5K.  We ran through 9 different inflatable obstacles along the race route.  We each had our favorite, but they were all fun!

While we waited Devin played some basketball.  He managed to make a few hoops.

Up next, Skee-Ball.  Devin definitely master the technique on this game.

This was one of the many obstacles.  It was one of my favorites! 

It had all kinds of different terrains to climb/run over.  

This was Devin's favorite blow up.  It had these huge hanging balls, which could knock you completely off balance.  Devin got hit by one right off the bat and thought it was awesome.  

We climbed to the top to run back down through the obstacles and another set of swinging balls.  Then it was back up a second hill, through the balls, and down the other side.

Our very next blow up was a huge double slide.   

Devin couldn't wait to climb to the top. 

It was quite the climb, but the well worth it!

We made it to the finish!  

We each earned a medal for finishing the course.  Devin was so excited. Such a great start to our Sunday.  So glad that I get to share these experiences with Devin!  

5K on the Runway

We were out of bed early this morning for the 5K on the runway.  The sun was shining, but it was a crisp Spring morning.  We couldn't wait for the race to begin.  It was chilly just standing around waiting.  We did check out a few airplanes while we waited though.

Very proud of our finish today!  We finished in under 40 minutes.

Devin was awarded a medal for finishing the race.

5K on the Run Way

We were up bright and early for our next 5K. This was 5K on the Runway.  We started on the tarmac and ran towards the end of the new runway at the Evansville Airport.  We ran by all kids of airport rescue equipment.  We were lucky the day didn't start out too hot and it was fairly overcast.

Mom was right behind Devin.  As you can see we finished ~43 minutes.  It wasn't our fastest run, but you can thank the humidity and hill on the second half.

Laufenfest 5K

Running down the home stretch of the Laufenfest.  We had quite the cheering section.  Mamaw & Papaw, Greg, Tate and our neighbors were all out to support all of the runners/walkers. 

Devin had a great race! We finished in 40:02. That was a 12:54 pace. 

Devin was 28th in his age division 15 and under. 

I finished 43rd in my age division.
