Monday morning started out with a great breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen. The boys were excited to get the day started. We were celebrating Greg's Birthday. The kids had already sung him Happy Birthday in the room and given him their cards and gift.
Devin & Tate couldn't wait to get some Mickey shaped waffles and pancakes. They even had some non-traditional breakfast food like hot dogs and mac-n-cheese. Tate was so excited. Tate ended up eating some waffles, mac-n-cheese, yogurt, and a plate full of fruit! Devin had several helpings of waffles with syrup and of course Devin's favorite - Bacon!
Chef Goofy greeted us as we entered. The boys get such a kick out of Goofy.
A family picture in the chef's kitchen.
This breakfast was full of characters to meet. The first one to come by the table was Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty).
Then Chip made an appearance by our table. Both Chip and Dale are a lot of fun. They kept the kids laughing.
Pluto was next. Both boys have mouths filled with food.
I love the napkin shoved in Tate's shirt.
Pluto was followed by Dale - that other rascally Chipmunk.
Following Dale we meet BaLoo the Bear from the Jungle Book for the very first time. The boys were very excited to get his autograph. It's not very often that you get to see BaLoo at and about!
In Disney fashion we had to celebrate Greg's birthday at every meal. Why not celebrate your birthday at breakfast with a chocolate cupcake and sprinkles??
Chip made the rounds, back to our table. This time Dad had to get into the action too.
I'm pretty sure that Chip and Greg and some sort of moment right here. I'm thinking that Chip may have been flirting with Greg. Not sure if I should be worried or not.
Looks like Dale was nibbling on Greg's shoulder as they looked longingly into each others eye.
After breakfast we took a tour inside of Disney California Adventure Park. We learned some of the inspirations for the park. It celebrates all things that are uniquely Californian - from the Pacific Wharfs, Holllywood, Wine County, as well as some of California's biggest industries. One of our stops along the ways was The Animation Academy.
They were mesmerized by the changing artwork and designs from all of the Disney movies. It would show character sketches, scene designs, and other elements prior to the films making. It was an interesting exhibit and gave you some background to some of our favorite movies.
Once inside we took advantage of some of the animators that are part of the exhibit. Our session gave us the opportunity to draw one of Walt's iconic cartoons - Steamboat Willie. The animator walked us through all of the steps required to draw his iconic character. They broke the character down into steps and more simple shapes that are used to create him. Here Devin intently tries to draw his Mickey. He ended up getting some great help from another animator in the room.
Tate paying attention to the animator and attempting to draw Mickey - Left handed.
This is where our animator set and drew the character. At the end, she gave her sketch to Devin & Tate.
He drawings were projected up onto the big screen. I need to scan all of our drawings in to see the slight differences. Such a fun experience. I could have sat here all day sketching over and over again.
